ComAp partnered with Electrical s.p. in Ljubljana, Slovenia, to retrofit a hydropower plant’s control system with ComAp’s latest solution for power generation control. This upgrade aimed to improve the reliability and efficiency of the plant and enable it to meet the requirements of modern power production.
The Fuzine Hydropower Plant, situated on the Ljubljanica River, has been in operation for more than 120 years and houses three water turbines that produce 2,200 kW of electrical energy for the nearby Vevce paper factory. To comply with new grid regulations and to have a modernised, automated control system, the Fuzine power plant decided to upgrade it to one capable of meeting current power demands.
Electrical s.p., with the support of ComAp, implemented a new control system operated by ComAp’s InteliSys 2000 controller for advanced power generation. The InteliSys 2000 provides detailed and precise control of the generators and turbines.
The whole control of the electrical part (measurement, protections, synchronisation, breaker control, P-Q management, Grid codes, etc.) is already prepared in the control unit. It only requires PLC programming for the turbine control part, which might be a bit different for every hydropower plant.
With all the prepared functional blocks, sequences and drag-and-drop PLC and all the values available in InteliSys 2000 controller, it saves so much programming and commissioning time.
Additionally, the control system was equipped with ComAp’s InteliSCADA software, enabling accessible monitoring and control of the system via the plant’s main control room or remotely through the WebSupervisor cloud service. The result is a more reliable and efficient control system that enables the hydropower plant to comply with the latest standards.
