Moment Energy has introduced a fully integrated and compliant Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to the market incorporating ComAp's advanced BESS controls. The parties collaborated closely to seamlessly combine Moment Energy's 400 kWh Half-Luna BESS with ComAp's proven control solutions to deliver a reliable, commercially viable, fully integrated energy storage solution. Central to the solution is ComAp's InteliNeo 5500 controller, which enables seamless system coordination and supports safe, dependable operation.

Founded in Canada, Moment Energy specializes in transforming retired EV batteries into high-performance stationary energy storage systems for commercial use. By combining environmental stewardship with engineering expertise, the company enables businesses to optimize energy consumption, extend battery life, and reduce their carbon footprint, positioning itself as a key innovator in the evolving energy storage landscape.

To develop the Half-Luna BESS, precise coordination between the battery management system and the BESS’s inverter controls was essential. ComAp’s InteliNeo 5500 controller ensured accurate alignment of voltage and current, as well as charge and discharge behaviour, allowing the system to safeguard battery health, maintain system performance and comply with safety requirements. Real-time monitoring, advanced control algorithms, and rapid system response are central to handling dynamic operating conditions and potential anomalies in the fully integrated solution.

The Half-Luna BESS is designed to deliver up to 220 kW of power using two Dynapower MPS-125 inverters, each paired with 200 kWh of storage, for a total capacity of 400 kWh. This dual-inverter architecture allows the system to operate in two independent halves, providing inherent redundancy and ensuring continued operation in the event of a hardware failure.
ComAp supported the project through the supply, programming, and commissioning of the InteliNeo 5500 controller. Close collaboration between the two engineering teams enabled customised control logic and seamless communication across all system components. Extensive simulations and iterative testing validated system behaviour across a wide range of operating scenarios, with safety protocols rigorously applied throughout development.

Moment Energy's Half-Luna BESS, fully integrated with ComAp's advanced controls, provides a fully functioning and compliant BESS solution that is currently available across Canadian markets.
The project demonstrates how ComAp’s control expertise and system integration capabilities enable scalable, reliable energy storage solutions that support the transition to a more sustainable energy future.
